We evacuated! Ran like chickens. Key refugee, I like the sound, screw politically correct.
Strange thing happened though, that made it a little interesting.
We actually have a contract on a house in Big Pine Key. "nobody buy's house's during hurricane season," my neighbor said. I't's a one year old modular home on concrete pillars. About 10 ft off the ground. It's rated up to 180 mph, 2 bed/2 baths.
I was getting everything ready for the storm at the mobile home and just wondered if the people we are buying from would let us hang out in there with some of our valuables until the storm blows by. We'll everybody thought no way, except the home owners who had moved out about a month ago. I told them I could put up the storm shutters.
I started grabbing everything I could and took it to the house. We had planned on staying in there. But, my wife was having a HORRIBLE! sinus infection and just wanted to die, and it was getting worse. We knew this place would not be fun without water and electrcity while your sick as a dog. I realized with a storm surge our vehicles will be swamped in salt water. don't need that at all.
So we decided to leave. We are staying with some friends of ours in Ft. Lauderdale, Burt and Glenna, they are real easy to stay with, so we'll have fun.
I'm real nervous about my boat and motor, which I pulled out of the water and put on blocks. I'm laughing at all the stupid stuff I grabbed, but I guess you can't grab it all. Hopefully my wife will be feeling better. She is excited about going to a bookstore. It was strange driving in all the hussle and bussle, I already want to get back to my hole in the water.
My wife told me that my spelling and grammer has been pretty bad. She volunteered to be the editor, but since the editor is asleep and I don't want to waste minutes calling everybody, I'm going strait to print.
Rita is still a Tropical storm, but the wind is going to be slamming the mobile head on at first because it faces due north on Big Pine. If it can hold on until the storm gets below us we'll be good.
We do take charity, being hurricane refugees and all, just kidding. We're just glad we don't have school until WEDS!!!! And you can't really do anything for 2 days, then another weekend!
