catching up

well, we are moving into august and we have not melted yet. i have been trying to do as much as i can before i begin to waddle around and lose energy as i head into my last 12 weeks of pregnancy. brody has not seemed fazed by the big belly, promptly pointing to his when he sees mine. i guess he just believes his mom has a big bowling ball belly and that's normal. all my prenatal check-ups have been very good, but #2's kidneys seem to be high in fluid, and i have had to see a neonatal specialist who has looked at them and i will go back one more time before he is born. if the fluid remains high, the pediatrician will need to do a thorough exam after birth, i am told. hopefully, when i go back to the specialist, his fluids will be lower. but, other than that, we are doing well. brody just had his 15 month checkup and nothing to report. adam and i drove up to atlanta last weekend to see a friend of ours get married, and had a great time catching up with some good friends, and enjoyed weekend to ourselves, thanks to Be Beep and Pop Pop. Brody loves to play at their house and gets lots of love and attention. it's SO nice to live near them, i don't know how other people do it. grandparents are the best! we also got to stay with adam's cousin betsy and her husband dan, and check out their new house. very nice! my highlight, though, was getting some time with our favorite family, the Thompsons. they are here from the UK for a short visit, and we met up with them at the wedding, and ate dinner with them afterwards. although we were all pretty tired, and they were driving back to augusta, and dennis flying back to the UK in the morning, we managed to catch up some. and enjoy a dinner together.

other than that, we are looking forward to a trip to savannah in a couple of weeks, and just hangin out around here with family.

oh yeah - and i need to recount my 911 situation the other day. i was putting brody in his carseat, and he took my keys while i fiddled with the straps. well, i closed his door, and before i could even think about it, he pushed the big LOCK button. i usually have my car door open, but not this time. i sat there looking at him laughing at me through the windshield and tried to think what to do. i finally decided i had no chioces really. i went to my neighbors and called adam. he told me to call the police, so i quickly hung up and dialed 911. my first time ever. i was very calm as i explained to them that my child locked himelf in my car. i was told an officer was on his way, so i went back out to the car to wait. by this time brody was crying, and i started to get panicky as i was getting hot and i wasn't even in the car. so the officer came, then a locksmith, and finally after about 15 minutes, my sweaty boy was retrieved. after i thanked them all and said good bye to my neighbor, i went inside, closed the door, took one look at brody and started crying. it all sorta hit me at once, and seeing him so upset and soaking wet, i just crumpled. i am so thankful that it was a minor emergency, but, oh, the mind just reels at what could happen, you know? i try not to ever go there, but that was a very real reminder of just how scary being a parent can be.
